Dr Raj Pathmaraj practices general ophthalmology, glaucoma and cataract surgery.  He has been a partner for the past 5 years.  

He practices at the Vision Eye Institute, Blackburn South and Coburg.

Background

Dr Pathmaraj commenced his career in Ophthalmology at the Aravind Eye Hospital and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology, a prestigious premier ophthalmic centre in Madurai, South India. He undertook five years of further training in UK. Whilst in London, he secured the Fellowship in Ophthalmology from The Royal College of Surgeons Of Edinburgh and was inducted to the Membership of The Royal College of Ophthalmologist, London.

He also obtained the Diploma in Ophthalmology from The Royal College of Physicians And Surgeons Of Ireland. Dr Pathmaraj migrated to Australia in 1992 and passed the Australian Medical Council Exam and obtained Full Registration with the Medical Board of Victoria. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist in 2000. 

Professional Credentials

Dr Pathmaraj is a member of the Senior Medical Staff at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) premier teaching and tertiary referral centre in Victoria. His role at RVEEH includes training of Ophthalmology Registrars who are in the training program of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist. He also holds a Public Hospital Appointment as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and operates at Yarra Ranges Health Services in
Lillydale.

Dr Pathmaraj is the Founding President of Australian Medical Aid Foundation Inc, Victorian Chapter, a not for profit organisation, involved in rebuilding the health infrastructure in war torn countries in South East Asia, especially Sri Lanka (www.ausmedaid.org).  He is also a founding partner in Sight RANZCO Eye Foundation which helps to provide funds to eye care research aimed at reducing preventable blindness by community awareness in rural and remote Australia as well as other pan-Asian nations (www.eyefoundation.org.au). He regularly acts as Team Leader for the Eye Clinic in a medical camp organized by Sai Medicare Australia in Fiji (www.saiaustralia.org.au/medical/fiji2008).He is also a member of the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists.

Dr Pathmaraj always finds time to meditate daily, as well as enjoying spending time with his family.
