Dr Joseph Reich is a specialist cataract and refractive surgeon. His current clinical interests include laser refractive surgery, cataract surgery and complex refractive lens exchange, including a large clinical experience with the multifocal lens implant and the toric lens correction of astigmatism.
He currently practices at the Vision Eye Institute Camberwell but also consults at Coburg, St Kilda Road and Blackburn South. To view Dr Reich’s personal website, click here.
Dr Reich trained at the Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. He has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Head of Clinic and Chairman of the Senior Medical Staff at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. He has also been a Federal Councillor, Part Two Examiner and Chairman of the Qualifications and Education Committee (Victoria) for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has been widely published in the area of medical education.
With his partners Dr Reich developed the Camberwell Eye Clinic Day Surgery Centre and was invited to contribute to the formulation of policy for the Victorian Government to assist in legislation allowing for ophthalmic day surgery in the state.
He was also on the National Day Surgery Committee for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and formulated the initial standards for ophthalmic day surgery for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.
Dr Reich currently holds the position of international editor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Basic and Clinical Science Course textbook “Lens and Cataract.
Dr Reich has recently had his first novel, ‘I Know Precious Little’, published to acclaimed reviews. He is also a keen acrylic and watercolour artist, and spends his little spare time in his studio at his home.
