Dr Yeung is an ophthalmologist with special interests in retinal conditions (e.g. age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions), uveitis and glaucoma. He also performs cataract surgery, retinal laser treatment and intravitreal injections, in addition to practising general ophthalmology.
Dr Yeung graduated from the National University of Ireland in Cork, after which he completed his basic specialist training in ophthalmology in the Munster region of Ireland. Due to his research interests, Dr Yeung then completed his PhD investigating ocular stem cells at the University of Nottingham.
He began his higher specialist training in ophthalmology in the West Midlands Deanery, Birmingham, was subsequently appointed a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) clinical lecturer and completed his ophthalmology training in the East Midlands Deanery. Dr Yeung was Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Prior to moving to Australia permanently, he completed the Professorial Fellowship at Sydney Eye Hospital (specialising in medical retinal conditions and uveitis). He has a public appointment at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, where he sees general ophthalmology patients.
Dr Yeung is extremely passionate about his patients and his work. He trained as a clinician-scientist and is constantly researching ways to improve the way in which medicine is practised. He was awarded an NIHR Biomedical Research Centre/ARVO Travel Grant in 2013 to present his work at the ARVO Annual Meeting. Dr Yeung was awarded the Nottingham Research Poster Prize in 2014. Most recently, he was nominated for the Nottingham University Hospitals Honours in Surgery 2016. Dr Yeung has authored numerous publications in many high-impact ophthalmology journals, co-authored book chapters and has been invited to speak at many international ophthalmology conferences.
Dr Yeung loves to relax by listening to music and cooking for family and friends. He has attained Grade 8 in Piano from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. He enjoys swimming and martial arts. Above all, he loves to spend time with his wife and young family.
