Dr Russell is a vitreo-retinal surgeon, medical retinal diseases specialist and a cataract surgeon.
He treats retinal and macular diseases, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases,. He also provides surgical treatment of epiretinal membrane, macular hole, retinal detachment and cataract surgery. He runs a busy practice and is known for setting high standards of innovation in retinal surgery.
Dr Russell works from Vision Eye Institute River City, Southport and Upper Mount Gravatt.
Dr Russell graduated from medicine at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand and completed his medical training in Christchurch and Auckland. He completed three vitro-retinal fellowship during his extensive training – this included fellowships of highly regarded training programmes in North America, the Doheny Retinal Institute, University of Southern California, Los Angeles and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
Dr Russell was awarded the Cedric Cohen Medical from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists for highest academic performance. He was Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and was on staff at Vancouver General Hospital prior to joining Vision Eye Institute in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
He has multiple publications in the field of retinal diseases and surgery. He has also been involved in multi-centre clinical research and continues his interest n clinical research and teaching at Vision Eye Institute.
