Dr André Horak specialises in medical and surgical disease of the retina, cataract and refractive lens implantation surgery.
He provides comprehensive ophthalmic services in his fields of speciality for the Central Queensland region. He works from Vision Eye Institute, Mackay.
Dr Horak graduated medicine in 1988. He completed his ophthalmic training at the University of Pretoria, in South Africa during 1997 before undertaking sub speciality training in vitreo-retinal surgery in the United Kingdom in 1998.
Dr Horak was a director of and practiced at, the Pretoria Eye Institute and North Cliff Eye Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa from 1998 until relocating with his family to Australia during 2007. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists and the European Vitreo-Retinal Society.
Dr Horak is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. A Masters degree in Medicine was awarded to him in 1997. He has presented papers and posters at conferences and symposia in South Africa, the United Kingdom and at the Club Jules Gonin.
Andre enjoys the outdoor lifestyle Queensland has to offer. Most weekends are spent paddling his Ocean racing surf ski and cycling.
