With over 16 years of experience, Dr Tess Huynh is a highly respected corneal and cataract surgeon who is actively involved in research, teaching and charity work. Dr Huynh uses the latest surgical techniques and her ophthalmic subspecialties are:
Dr Huynh practices at Vision Eye Institute’s Hurstville clinic. Please note that she also speaks Vietnamese fluently.
Dr Huynh received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1996 from the University of Sydney, before completing internship training at Liverpool Hospital, Westmead Hospital and Concord Repatriation Hospital. In 2000, she commenced Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists training in corneal and external eye diseases at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. On completion of her ophthalmic training, Dr Huynh was granted the Corneal Fellowship for further training with the Corneal Unit at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), at the time headed by Professor Hugh Taylor.
Dr Huynh is a clinical lecturer at Macquarie University Hospital, a 975-bed tertiary hospital in Sydney, and is also involved in teaching the Master of Refractive Surgery course at the University of Sydney. She also sit on the College Board of Examiners for the RANZCO OBCK exam, which establishes basic competencies for ophthalmology trainee doctors. She has presented extensively at conferences in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, as well as lecturing at certification courses for national and international ophthalmologists. Dr Huynh has several peer-reviewed publications to her name.
Dr Huynh has a passion for helping the less privileged and has been involved in charity work in Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines. She was awarded the Pharmacia Grant, in conjunction with an honourary position at the Royal Children’s Hospital International Charity Organisation, for establishing a retinopathy-of-prematurity screening program at the National Paediatric Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam. She has been actively involved as a volunteer surgeon and fundraiser for the Vietnam Vision Project since 2006. Other organisations that Dr Huynh volunteers for include AHHA (Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid)/Rotary Club, Cambodia Vision and Sight For All.
