Dr Hughes love for refractive surgery began in the early 1980′s, when he travelled overseas to learn the Russian technique of Radial Keratotomy (RK). However, with the development of the Excimer Laser, Dr Hughes had no doubt that this was the way of the future and his was one of the first clinics in Australia to begin performing the procedure.
Dr Hughes is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand Collage of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australian Collage of Surgeons. He is a member of the American, European and Australian Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons.
Dr Hughes is actively involved in research and frequently lectures on the international ophthalmic circuit. He has also published in numerous peer reviewed journals.
