Cataract surgery must be one of the most rewarding procedures imaginable.
I have been fortunate to have witnessed the great change in cataract surgery techniques from extracapsular surgery, where the cataract was removed in one piece through a largish incision into the eye, to phacoemulsification. In this technique the cataract is fragmented and removed via a tiny incision in the cornea and the opaque lens replaced with a new clear lens.
Skills and experience gained in one technique were refined and adapted for the next technique so that patients have quick, safe surgery to remove their cataracts and have a pleasant Day-surgery experience.
I spend time on personal audits so that I can ensure that the most appropriate lens is used to get the most predictable outcomes for my patients. This allows people to know before the surgery what their likely outcome will be.

Due to a specialised Fellowship training in Oculoplastic surgery, I offer surgery where I repair or restore the function of eyelids. This is done either in cases where parts of the eyelid has been removed for a cancer or to repair eyelids whose positions have changed so that they are no longer able to protect the eye or help with tear drainage. I also offer Botox treatment for facial spasms which have become debilitating.
I have extensive experience with the implantation of artificial ocular implants for people who have had an eye removed so that prosthesis can be fitted. Although the person can no longer see, the prosthesis is very cosmetically acceptable and restores confidence and dignity to people who have had an eye removed.

Some patients may have glaucoma which can no longer be treated with drops or laser. They are then offered surgery to make a shunt that allows the fluid in their eyes to drain bypassing their poorly functioning drainage system. I usually use a shunt to help divert the excess fluid from inside the eye to the episcleral space which prevents pressure build up in the eye.
