I’m undoubtedly passionate about ophthalmic surgery, however if that was the only interest in my life, I would be a very one-dimensional individual!
I was brought up in a rugby-mad family, and that enthusiasm has stayed with me to this day. I particularly enjoy Rugby Union, having coached rugby for many years (1st Grade Colts Northern Suburbs, who have won a Silver Medal at the World Masters). I still enjoy playing touch footy on the weekends.
My other major passion is fly fishing. It satisfies me on a number of levels – the fresh air, the peace that surrounds you – it’s brings an equilibrium to my life. However, I also like the fact that it requires a keen eye and intricate work to make the perfect fly. It’s almost as delicate work as surgery, and I am as much a perfectionist in making a fly as I am in performing surgery.
Of course, my family is by far the most important thing in my life. I’m a very fortunate man.
