I’m Queensland born and bred, having graduated from the University of Queensland before becoming an Ophthalmic surgeon (see my qualifications at the right). I moved to the Gold Coast in 1980 to establish a private practice, and have been here ever since. In 1988, I was joined by my friend Dr Peter Heiner, and in 1998 by Dr Bob Bourke. Today, my fellow colleagues Dr Frank Howes, Dr Elizabeth Hagen and Dr Matthew Russell. I enjoy working with them, they’re all great people.
I was one of the first to perform laser vision correction using an Excimer Laser in 1991, as well as LASIK in 1996. In 1980, I was one of the very first Australian doctors to implant an intraocular lens. I’m also proud of the fact that I built Queenland’s first licenced day theatres.
I love The Gold Coast, with the beaches, the fine white sand, the shining sun, the laughing people, it’s not possible to be unhappy. It affects my daily work, I love what I do.
I’ve been involved in a lot of new technology over the years, and I enjoy being involved with that. Recently, I’ve made the decision to specialise only in two areas – cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery. They are actually the same procedures for different reasons, and so I plan on being the very best that I can be in that area.
