Dr Darryl Gregor

A leading Gold Coast ophthalmic, surgeon, Dr Darryl Gregor is a well recognised pioneer in both cataract surgery and laser vision correction. He is particularly passionate about cataract surgery and refractive lens exchanges, and has to date performed over 20,000 such procedures. Dr Gregor was one of the first in Australia to perform laser eye surgery (1991). He began his practice in Southport in 1980, becoming one of the first Australian ophthalmologists to implant intraocular lenses. He was also a pioneer of Day Surgery, building Southport’s Brockway House in 1985 – a specialist Medical Centre and Day Surgery and the first licensed Day Theatre in Queensland. Throughout his career, he has become a well known advocate of reform in education and business. His community activities include the Gregor Academic Scholarship TSS (from 1992), Silver Benefactor Gold Coast Arts Centre (from 1997), Medical Tourism Advisor to the Gold Coast City Council (from 1997) and has won Business Excellence Awards in 1999, 2001 and 2003

The professional and industry credentials of Dr Darryl Gregor include:

•  holds a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists (1980)
• Served as president of the Gold Coast Medical Association in 1998, and was Branch Councillor of AMAQ in 2003/4
• He was a Founding Member of the Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons
• Founding partner of The Eye Centre and the Laservision Centre
• Participated in a number of clinical trials, including being a clinical investigator for Bausch & Lomb Crystalens
• Founding member of the Australasian Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, a member of the American Society of Cataracts and Refractive Surgeons, the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and President & Branch Councillor of The Australian Medical Association.
